BELA (Brand Expression & Language Architecture) is h2\'s augmented semiotics device. It enables semiotic analysis of sign corpora — packaging, communication, digital expression, broadcast content — at volumes out of reach of traditional approaches, while preserving the interpretive finesse on which the value of a semiotic reading rests. Three axes structure the device: a four-dimensional grid, sector variants sharing a common foundation, and continuous circulation from audit to activation.
BELA applies a semiotic grid structured along four complementary dimensions:
Each item in the corpus is read through this grid, in its descriptive dimension and its interpretive dimension. The systematic reading produced can then be aggregated, cross-referenced, compared and mapped at the scale of an entire sector.
Benefit: the semiotic rigour conducted manually on a few dozen references applies to entire markets, without degrading analytical finesse.
BELA materialises in sector variants that share a common methodological foundation and adapt to the nature of the corpus.
Semiotic cartography of the perfume industry, conducted on corpora that can reach 40,000 references (luxury, niche, mainstream, all markets combined). The four-dimensional grid is applied to all relevant launches to produce a systematic reading of codes, their distribution, and their evolution over time.
Analysis of brands\' social expression, post by post, on their own channels (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook). The device reads what the brand says about itself: tone, stance, visual register, territories of promise, axes of differentiation. It surfaces the effective expression of brands, any gaps with declared intent, and unoccupied territories in the market.
Material filmed by consumers themselves (daily journals, situational uses, self-centred narratives) is treated as a structured analytical object: segmentation of salient moments, cross-referencing of gestures and speech, generation of descriptive and interpretive metadata. The method enables analysis of large video corpora without renouncing the analytical depth proper to ethnography.
Benefit: a single analytical foundation usable across heterogeneous materials, expanding the perimeter of terrains accessible to a rigorous semiotic reading.
BELA analyses are anchored in Arcade and feed the downstream phases of the production cycle: positioning framing, identification of unoccupied territories of promise, creative briefs, brand stretching scenarios. The semiotic audit deliverable becomes analytical material mobilisable at the moment of strategic decision.
A BELA variant dedicated to landscapes of individual public discourse producers (content creators) is in development.
